1 Down, 2 to Go

Living IN a renovation is hard y’all. I mean really, really hard. And even though we bought this house before we had our other one even ready to go on the market, we figured it would take at least 3 or 4 months to sell the other house since we waited until after the magical back-to-school start date. We were wrong. Thrilled to have sold it before the market started to tick down, but still wrong. And going from almost 5000 sf to 2500 sf has also proved to be more of a challenge than we realized. So all that to say when I’m watching HGTV from now on and they start to panic as the homeowner’s moving date draw nears, I will sympathize…big time.

Our most recent project was the kids’ bathroom and I could not be happier with the results. (And we started this in back December, but like I said in the first paragraph, this is hard…) Of the 3 bathrooms, we figured this one would be the easiest to tackle. It had this lovely pink floor tile (who does that?) and cabinets that were falling apart (as are all of the cabinets in this house…) and so water damaged inside I wouldn’t let the kids put anything in them.

So this was going to be a [relatively] quick, cosmetic-only bathroom redo. Or so we thought. After a Friday night date night of removing all of the tile and the tub (do we keep it hot or what?), we realized the wood under the tub was rotted (and we are lucky no one fell through to the garage). Add to that this awesome floor job with about 2″ of cement under the tile and we  knew we had our work cut out for us. It literally took the entire weekend just to get the demo done.

Demo img_5734was done and we set to work. New subfloor under the tub, plumbing re-worked to accommodate the new shower panel, tub set and we were ready for the fun stuff – tiling. I love to tile. We did several rooms in our last house – kitchen, master bath, basement bath and it’s just something I enjoy. Drew measures, I cut, and away we go. We opted for an ashlar pattern on both the tub and floor (subway is offset, ashlar is not…these are things my husband feels like everyone should know. I would rather say “I want the tiles stacked on top of each other) and I could not be happier with the results.

The most expensive thing in the bathroom was the sink/vanity which I found on wayfair.com (it’s also where I got the roman tub, standing faucet & lights for our previous master bath redo. I love this company), but it’s super cool and unique and I love it. Here are the final results.

I’m not going to lie, I will literally go hang out in this bathroom almost every day to remind myself what the end goal of all of this is. Parker loves his shower (we did the same faucet system in our last house and could not get that kid out of our bathroom so we figured we would give him his own. I still need to get some pics on the wall, but all in all, THIS is why we bought this house.

Now on to the kitchen…which currently looks like this:

But will soon look like this with a few extra bells and whistles:

Please say a prayer ya’ll….I’m going to need it for the next few months. But it is SO going to be worth it in the end. And EVERYONE of you is invited to come break bread and enjoy a home cooked meal when we cross the finish line.
