The Power of Paint

Color impacts our lives whether we acknowledge it or not. Nobody sees the world in black & white and certain colors can have very strong effects on people (i.e. red makes you want to eat more so keep it away from your kitchen if you value your waistline and think about how many restaurants have red walls…hmmmm) I wanted to try something with this house and paint the entire house 1 color, but a color that would look drastically different in different lighting. Good lighting is huge people – seriously. Take a minute to look at and consider the lighting of a space the next few days and see what you think. You probably notice (and curse at) obnoxious dressing room flourescent lighting easily, but try to think about it with lighting in a room that you like. What do you like about it? How does it make you feel? (warm, invited, cozy).

latticeAfter a few too many sample cans, I finally decided on Sherwin Williams Lattice. I am sure whatever is showing up on your screen looks nothing like my color and I will be posting finished walls soon (Drew left the house at 5:30 this morning to go over and paint a few rooms before a 9:00 meeting – this man is amazing) But when I threw a few strokes up on the 2 opposite great room walls (one with light coming in and one reflecting light), the kitchen wall and the media room, I knew it was the one. It was warm and toasty and nobody believed they were all from the same can.

These 3 pics are all Lattice – but I’m guessing they all look like different colors to you (they do to me). So it will be fun to see how each room looks when all is said and done – especially since I get to pick out a whole new house of accent colors. Can you say fun?!

The main accent color I am leaning toward is navy. I have this vision of a high-gloss navy peninsula in the kitchen (when we get to those MAJOR renovations in a few months) so for now, I am going with that. Here is my overall palette….at least for today 🙂 I can’t wait to see it when the new doors and trim and windows and floors and ceilings and…..oh my…I hope this color can give us energy as well. Clearly, we are going to need lots of it.
