Demo Day (or Month…Let’s Be Real Here)

For those of you who love HGTV as much as I do, you are all too familiar with “Demo Day.” Just so you know, most of us don’t have a team of 10+ people helping out with the renovations, so there is no such thing as Demo Day. In the first 2 weeks we have taken out all of the carpet (which sadly was brand new, but which, also sadly, was what they use on cat scratch posts), the tile floor in the lower level (with a jackhammer which can leave some wicked bruises), removed all of the base and window trim, taken out about 30 trees, removed all of the doors and door frames.

This is our dumpster after 2 weeks of demo. We are pretty much done with this part for now – we cannot even think about touching the kitchen or bathrooms or great room until after we move in. Ugh. Just realizing that makes me want to cry….but it is what it is and I can’t really be upset because it means we sold the house we are in now and my husband was not loving the idea of multiple mortgage payments (we are also trying to sell a rental house in NC right now so let’s just say our lives are pure chaos right now).

Goals

So our carefully orchestrated plan of attack before we move in 2 weeks is as follows:

  1. Ceilings Scraped and Sanded and Mudded.
  2. New base and window trim put up (ceiling trim is gonna have to wait)
  3. Entire house (except for kitchen & bathrooms which are going to be total gut jobs) painted 1 color and 1 color only.
  4. New carpet installed in upstairs bedrooms.
  5. New tile floor in entire lower level.
  6. New doors on entire house (we ordered them yesterday and are praying they can get delivered in time.

So, with that in mind…I guess I should get off this computer and go get working.
